Najib Shah Likely To Be Appointed New CBEC Chairman
New Delhi: Chairman, Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), Kaushal Srivastava will demit office in this month, when he turns 60, the official age of retirement, after serving nearly 20 months in the indirect taxes body and is likely to be succeeded by Najib Shah.
Sources said Shah, the senior among the six members of CBEC, is likely to replace Srivastava.
Srivastava, who was regarded as low profile compared to his predecessors such as Sumit Dutt Majumde, S K Goel and J M Shanti Sundharam, joined the indirect taxes body in October 2013 as member and was elevated as CBEC Chairman in November 2014.
Srivastava worked in various segments in the field formation of the CBEC in various capacities.
His term as CBEC Chairman also saw improvement in revenue collection in indirect taxes, including Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax.
Najib Shah, a 1979 batch IRS officer joined CBEC in last month, also looks after the works of DG,DRI in addition to member CBEC. Shah is working as DG DRI since in the month of October, 2012 to till date.
The 1979 batch IRS officer is famous for his honesty and integrity and also for his fearlessness. Accordingly, he was posted as DG of DRI, the major intelligence agency of CBEC.
